What Is a Diesel Delete Kit?

A diesel delete kit is a set of components specifically designed to remove or bypass the emission control system of a diesel vehicle, such as: DPF, EGR, DEF/SCR.

What’s Included in a Full Diesel Delete Kit?

  • DPF delete pipe: Replaces the original DPF, reducing exhaust back pressure.
  • EGR delete kit: Includes a blockage plate and coolant rerouting component.
  • Tuner: Used to disable emissions-related warning lights and optimize engine performance after removing the emissions control system.

Key Benefits of Deleting the Diesel Engine

  • 15-30% increase in horsepower, fully unleashing the engine's potential.
  • 20-35% increase in torque, significantly improving acceleration and traction.
  • 10-25% improvement in fuel economy due to the elimination of DPF regeneration.
  • Eliminating turbo lag for more responsive engine control.
  • Reduced carbon buildup in the EGR system, extending engine life.
  • No need for the DPF regeneration cycle, avoiding costly emissions system repairs and maintenance.
  • Removing the EGR system reduces engine temperature.

Pros & Cons of Diesel Delete Kit: Deleted vs. Stock

Feature Deleted Stock
Horsepower 50+ HP increase Restricted by emissions components
Fuel Economy 2-3 MPG improvement Lower efficiency due to backpressure
Maintenance Cost Low (no DPF/EGR service) High (frequent regenerations, filter replacements)
Reliability Reduced risk of emissions-related breakdowns Prone to clogs and system failures
Installation DIY-friendly with included instructions Factory-installed, but hard to service
Exhaust Gas Temperature Lower and more stable Extremely high temperatures during regeneration
Legal Status Off-road/race use only in most areas Road legal
Warranty Impact May affect or void the manufacturer's warranty Warranty is usually valid
Resale Value Attractive to certain buyers (off-road market) More widely accepted in the general market

Diesel Delete Kit Buying Guide: How to Choose the Right Kit

With a wide variety of diesel emission system removal kits on the market, finding the one that best suits your needs can be overwhelming. The following tips can help you make an informed choice:

1. Ensure it matches your truck brand and model

Before purchasing, be sure to confirm your truck's year, brand, and model, and choose a kit that matches it.

2. Consider your intended use

How to Install a Diesel Delete Kit

Installing a diesel emission control removal kit requires no advanced mechanical skills—our kit includes detailed installation instructions and all the necessary hardware. Here is a brief overview of the installation process (please refer to your kit's dedicated manual for specific steps for your vehicle model):

Safety First

  • Ensure the truck is parked on level ground and the engine is cool (wait at least 2 hours after running).
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid the risk of electric shock.
  • Wear safety glasses, gloves, and closed-to-the-knee shoes.
  • If lifting the vehicle is necessary, use a jack stand for support.

Installation Steps

  • 1. Remove the original emission components: Loosen the clamps and bolts, and remove the diesel particulate filter (DPF), exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, and related hoses.
  • 2. Install the removal kit components: Install the new exhaust pipe (from the kit) into the DPF location and install the EGR plug plate to seal the EGR port.
  • 3. Secure all connections: Tighten the clamps and bolts to the manufacturer's specifications to prevent leaks.
  • 4. Reconnect the battery: After all components are installed, reconnect the battery and start the engine to check for leaks or unusual noises.
  • 5. Program the ECU: Tune the ECU to disable emission warnings.

Note: Installation time varies depending on the vehicle model, but most DIY users can complete it within 2-4 hours. If you are unsure, please consult a professional diesel engine removal and modification shop.

Professional Tips:

  • Installation recommended by a professional.
  • Follow torque specifications.
  • Off-road/track use only.

FAQs

Legality depends on your region and vehicle intended use. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prohibits the removal of diesel engines from U.S. highway vehicles. However, in most states, removing the emissions system for off-road, racing, or agriculture is legal.

Costs vary depending on the engine and kit type. SuncentAuto's diesel delete kits range from $500 to $1500. Professional installation costs $200 to $400, depending on the repair shop.

Experienced users can remove it themselves, and we also offer a complete installation guide. However, for safety and proper installation, it is recommended to have it installed by a professional.

The best diesel engine delete kit depends on your engine, intended use, and whether you want a complete or partial removal.

Yes, if you install a diesel emission system removal kit, most original factory warranties will be void because it modifies the emission system.

I'm genuinely impressed with the Suncent Exhaust Header for my E46. The packaging was exceptional—everything arrived securely sealed with zero shipping damage. Fitment was nearly spot-on, though I encountered a couple of minor hurdles. I needed to slightly adjust the engine mount bracket for a perfect fit, which was a quick and easy tweak. Additionally, the O2 bung placement required a minor firewall modification, but this is a common step with most aftermarket headers for the E46 and was straightforward to resolve. One suggestion: I recommend using OEM header gaskets over the ones included in the kit. The OEM gaskets provide a superior seal, better fit, and improved heat protection for the upper plastic valve cover. Overall, I'm thrilled with the headers. They’re a fantastic upgrade for the E46, and despite the small adjustments, the installation was smooth and hassle-free. Great job, Suncent!

I just installed the BMR adjustable motor mounts (MM007) on my 2014 Mustang GT last weekend, they fit after removing an adjustment shim. I bought some heat tape to wrap around some wires/hoses coming from the supercharger. The headers came with the wrong type of bolts. I bought some stainless steel bolts (M10-1.25x20mm). Finally I bought the BBK exhaust flow tube (BBK-14670) so the exhaust shop could connect it to my 3" Roush cat-back exhaust. I went in for the repair on Wednesday and came back with a very strong push back, and the sound was very deep and powerful. I especially liked the popping sound when I pushed the throttle to the bottom, and the meeting was my happiest time. I hope this helps you.
